How to Self-Host GitLab

Prerequisites

• A virtual private server (VPS) running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS or similar Linux distribution
• Docker Engine and Docker Compose installed
• A domain name (A Record) pointing to your server's IP address

Quick Start Configuration

Create a docker-compose.yml file on your server:

  gitlab:
    image: gitlab/gitlab:latest
    restart: always
    ports:
      - "8080:8080"
    environment:
      - PORT=8080
      - NODE_ENV=production

Run the deployment command:

docker compose up -d

Setup reverse proxy rules (Nginx/Caddy) to handle domain traffic and SSL certification hooks.
